a) In my future I don't see any ethical or moral decisions i will have to face with my future career. I don't believe I will have to put up with much since I will be working with music so I have no worries with my future. However if a discussion gets political I may have to deal with someone else's views and I will just tolerate it. I may continue to discuss the matter but I won't really be effected by it.
b) It is important to be true to yourself and these morals because you have to be happy with yourself. If your not happy with your views and opinions then change them. It's not like your stuck with them forever.
c) To me, happiness is far more important then financial success because I'd much rather be happy then miserable when I'm working. But also with the way I am I could have a miserable job and still be happy AND have financial success so for me it's a win/win situation.
d) If I am successful in my career I will be known amongst the music community and I will truely be happy with what I'm doing. I know that I will be successful because I truely want it to happen. I want to have the best life for myself and my family and I know I can get it.

An Alternative Way
In the book, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden decides to go to New York to get away from school and his family. During his stay in New York, Holden makes several bad decisions that gets him drunk, beaten up, and lonely. So I'm going to give suggestions to an alternative way Holden could have taken so that he didn't get himself into so much trouble. What Holden should have done was taken the time to find a nicer hotel/motel to stay in that wasn't full of sketchy people. Instead of going to night clubs, Holden should have gone to a jazz club that was full of bands playing all the time so that Holden could really enjoy himself. Or, instead of a jazz club, Holden could have gone to see the New York Philharmonic Orchestra that has the big timpani's that Holden really likes. Another thing Holden definatly should have done is gone to the museum he had always gone to when he was younger. He could have relived some good memories from his past there and it would have been a good experience for him considering you can always learn in a museum.

The Most Genuine

Over the course of the last month we've read The Catcher In The Rye and watched Igby Goes Down. The main characters of each title is Holden Caulfield, and Igby Slokum Jr. Between the two of them that are both the "runts of the litter" in their family and don't seem to have a sense of direction with what they want to do. So this is to find out who is the most genuine character of the two.
In the book, The Catcher In The Rye, we meet Holden. A young man who isn't at all enthusiastic about school at all, finds the faults in most people, and doesn't care for anything except he sister Phoebe and his deceased brother Allie. Holden does care for woman and will stand up for them when ever a man is threatening/abusing them but he won't fight back against people, he'll just question the people or call them morons. Also Holden doesn't follow through with his idea's or feelings, if he's not in the mood then he just won't do it.
In the film, Igby Goes Down, we meet Igby. A young man who hasn't a care in the world for school, doesn't show any appreciation for his family except for his step-father Jason (who was thought to be his father at first), and loves to make other peoples lives a little more difficult by frustrating them.
Now the most genuine of the two is probably Igby because he follows through with his actions and dreams and it seems that Igby is well educated with psychology even though he keeps flunking school. Igby's morals and ethics, however, are quite sub-standard since he only cares for his step-father and resorts to drugs like his mom. Igby loves to screw with peoples heads which ends up with people disliking him immediatly.
Holden on the other hand, is quite a caring person and really believes that everyone should be themselves at all costs. He has great respect for woman, his sister Phoebe, and his deceased brother Allie, which shows that Holden could at least make the effort to make friends with other people. But since Holden doesn't follow though with his dreams, I don't think Holden is at all, in any manner, genuine.
So the most genuine of the two characters, Igby and Holden, is without a doubt Igby because he is at least making his way in the world without conforming to what his mom, brother, or father wanted for him.

What does it mean to be phony, according to Holden? Is Holden himself guilty of being a phony? Explain.
According to Holden, to be phony means to be different from a "normal human being". If he sees some people crying during a horrible movie he calls them phony because there is nothing to cry about and says that even the actors are phony. Now Holden calls the actors phony because they're being such good actors that they're not even playing the parts right. It really seems that everyone, to Holden, is a phony except for his family and Jane Gallagher.
Now even Holden himself is guilty of being phony! He consistantly thinks about calling Jane but doesnt because he's "not in the mood". He smokes way too much. Holden lies about his age just to get drunk or so he can travel incognito and he just lies his arse off about so many things like telling Mrs. Marrows his real name is Rudolph Schimdt and saying Mrs. Marrows soon is such a polite and charming boy just to get a laugh out of it. Also Holden really doesn't try at all which to me, makes him a phony. Holden has flunked out of 4 schools because of his terrible grades and he hasn't learned that he's going no where with his attitude towards just because he says all the school boys there are phonys.

Is Life A Game?
This question is something asked everywhere and there have been many answers to this but there has never been a true answer. In my opinion, life is not a game because you don't have die that determine where you move or cards that send you to jail. It's all up to you how you live your life. You can choose to be a family man, a doctor, paper boy, robber, etc. The point is... you decide your future, you are in control.
In the book, "The Catcher in the Rye", we find Holden doesn't really know where he is going or what he is doing. This shows Holden doesn't really care about his life and this will give him the idea that life is a game. However, Holden then decides to just leave his school earlier than planned and just hide out in New York for a bit. With this, I think Holden has started taking control of his life and doing what he wants. Now I believe Holden is probably thinking life isn't a game and will now live how he wants.

What Does It Mean To Be True To Yourself?
To be true to yourself, you must do what you feel is right. You shouldn't conform to what others see as cool or correct. Being who you are is more important than being who others want you to be. If you don't agree to something that your friends and/or family are doing, then you should not have to do it. It's important to act as you will, it's not possible to follow in the exact same footsteps as your parents or friends. For example: A few years ago, I was getting into things I personally didn't like because my friends did it to. I later found that this was not what I wanted to do and I found music. Since that time I have been doing what I found interesting and made me who I was.
In the book, "Catcher In The Rye", the protagonist, Holden, isn't really like anyone else because he doesn't try in school, and he's flunked out of 4 schools already. Also Holden has a lot of annoyances like phonies who are people who aren't true to themselves. Now is Holden being true to himself? I'm not completely sure since we're only three chapters into the book. But once we are further through the book, I'm convinced that Holden's character is going to change. However, there is a person in the book that seems to do what he likes to do. His name is Ackley. Ackley seems to really like annoying people by looking through their personal belongings and just being a straight up pest. But the main thing is... he is doing what he loves even though no one else likes it. He is not conforming to others but peoples characters do change and we may see a different Ackley by the end of the book.
